Our fields have only just taken their first small step.
Located in Kujukuri, we are what you might call a "growing micro-farm." For now, our site looks less like a grand estate and more like a humble market garden. However, the vision we are painting is a vast one. In the beautiful land of Kujukuri, we are working to build a sustainable permaculture environment—one that nurtures natural cycles and works in harmony with the ecosystem. Our goal is simple yet ambitious: to grow high-quality, seasonal vegetables that power our food businesses, including food trucks and catering. We invite you to follow us online as this small plot of land matures into a self-sustaining ecosystem. From a tiny speck on this great Earth to a lush farm where nature cycles effortlessly—we intend to cherish and document every step of that transformation.
Why permaulture?
To us, permaculture is more than just a cultivation method; it is a "design system for creating a better future." Rather than working against nature, we work with it. By taking inspiration from the patterns found in forests and natural ecosystems, we aim to build a resilient and flexible food system that heals the land and supports the local community.
We strive for responsible growth centered around the three pillars of Permaculture:
Regeneration, Kujukuri.
Stretching along the Pacific coast of Chiba Prefecture lies Kujukuri Beach. Its calm, expansive shoreline draws surfers and ocean lovers alike, where the endless horizon and soothing sea breeze offer a profound sense of connection to nature. The name "Kujukuri" (literally "99 ri") originates from an ancient unit of measurement where one ri is approximately 4km. However, the number "99" also carries a poetic nuance meaning "limitless" or "never-ending"—a name that perfectly symbolizes a coastline that seems to stretch into infinity.
Facing reality, finding solutions.
Yet, just a short distance inland from the sea, we encounter the same challenges facing many parts of Japan: a shrinking population and an increase in abandoned farmland. As a response to this, micro-farming is garnering attention. This approach focuses on small-scale, diverse, and sustainable agriculture. Rather than competing with industrial-scale farming, we breathe life back into forgotten soil by growing high-value crops that meet the needs of environmentally conscious individuals.
A model of the future.
This movement does more than just restore the landscape. It attracts a new generation moving from the city in search of nature. By combining government support with technology and marketing expertise, we are creating a model where even a small field can be economically viable.
Furthermore, these farms serve as more than just production sites; they are places for people to visit, learn, and connect with the region through food. Through farm stays and culinary workshops, we are passing down Japanese food culture and lifestyles to the next generation. Abandoned plots are being transformed into community gardens and vibrant gathering spaces. Just as the name "Kujukuri" suggests, the movement of micro-farming holds endless possibilities. We believe that through connection and ingenuity, rural Japan can reclaim a strength and beauty as vast as the coastline itself.
